The metro New Orleans area had received about half an inch of rain by 9 a.m. Sunday, about two hours after in began falling, according to forecasters with the Slidell office of the National Weather Service. The rain, which has caused the usual puddling around New Orleans, is expected to end in the early afternoon
"We've got slight to moderate rain fall across the city, " said Mike Efferson, a National Weather Service meteorologist on Sunday morning. "It likely will continue past noon, will be cloudy throughout the day."
The rainfall began about 7 a.m. and the north shore has seen a little less rain overall than the south shore, Efferson said.
